We Welcome all youth, parents, mentors and helpers to St. Bridget Youth Formation/Religious Education!
Our Youth Formation supplements you, the parent, in the Catholic Faith Formation of your youth. In-person sessions (classes) are offered for youth in grades K - 11. Classes meet on Monday evenings in the Community Life Annex and Didier Hall.
The Sacraments of First Reconciliation, First Eucharist, and Confirmation are offered through YF. Catholic School students in second grade are to register with their home parish in order to prepare for reception of the Sacraments. Confirmation is a two year program offered for youth in grades 10 and 11. Catholic School students are to attend sessions in their home parish for 10th and 11th grade Confirmation Prep.
Parents of youth previously registered in YF at St. Bridget will receive an email indicating their student registration status for 2024 - 2025. Fees can be paid online (see form below) or in person when classes begin. Parents of students new to the area, beginning Kindergarten or beginning first grade should contact the Office of Youth Formation (985-446-6801 ext 5) for more information and to register their children.
Mentors are needed to assist with Youth Formation for all grade levels. Sessions are held on Monday evenings throughout the school year.
We graciously thank all who have already volunteered to hep with the Youth Formation program. Below are some frequently asked questions that you too may have.
What would I have to do as a mentor?
Þ To be a good mentor, you need to pray for the youth.
Þ You need to be willing to read and pray with the lessons prior to lesson time.
Þ You need to attend YF sessions and mentor trainings throughout the school year.
What happens if I get sick or cannot make it to class due to work or other obligations.
Þ Of course, dedication and commitment are two of the biggest responsibilities of the mentor. We do realize that life happens. We try to have at least 2 adults assigned to each small group of youth so that when ‘life happens’ we can easily continue with YF.
I’m a teenager, can I help with YF?
Þ Yes, Yes, Yes! Often times teens and young adults are the best helpers/mentors.
Þ We do ask that the commitment to prayer, class, and mass attendance be made by the teen as well as the adult.
Do I have to plan lessons?
Þ Lessons are pre-planned for mentors and scripts for the lessons are provided ahead of time.
Þ Mentors can add their own twist, however this is not required.
Þ Mentors add their own personal touch when then feel it is appropriate to the lesson.
What grade levels need help?
Þ Currently, all grade levels need more help.
Þ We do have some mentors and are looking for more dedicated, youth loving individuals to help to continue with the success of our program.
Please pray about becoming more involved in the Youth Formation Program. Contact Miss Bernadette for more details.
